Parish Priest


Father Edmund Eggleston came to the Diocese of East Anglia in September 1997. Prior to that date he was a member of the Order of Saint Benedict at Downside Abbey in Somerset. He was ordained to the priesthood in the Abbey Church of Saint Gregory the Great at Downside on 2nd July 1994 by Dr. Mervyn Alexander, Bishop of Clifton. He is a graduate of the University of Oxford, where he studied Modern History.

His first appointment in East Anglia was as an Assistant Priest in the parish of Bury St. Edmunds. In June 2000 he was incardinated into the Diocese of East Anglia. Father Edmund's second appointment in the Diocese of East Anglia was as an Assistant Priest in Peterborough at the town centre parish of St. Peter and All Souls. For a period of five years he was involved in hospital chaplaincy work, first at the West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St. Edmunds and then at Peterborough District Hospital.

In May 2003 Father Edmund was appointed Parish Priest of St. Dominic's Parish at Downham Market. For the year 2005-2006 he was Vice-Chairman of Churches Together in Downham Market and Chairman for 2006-2007. Since September 2006 he has held the post of Secretary to the Historic Churches Committee of the Diocese of East Anglia.



Father Edmund Eggleston is welcomed into the Constantinian Order of Saint George by His Royal Highness Prince Carlo Bourbon, Duke of Calabria. November 2006
 
 
At a ceremony in Westminster Cathedral in November 2006 Father Edmund received the honour of being invested into the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George. It is an ancient order of knighthood which now belongs to the Royal House of Bourbon Two Sicilies. Today the members of this order support many charitable projects in the former kingdom of the Two Sicilies and in other parts of Europe. The former kingdom is a geographical area which covers most of Italy south of Naples and the island of Sicily. For more information please visit their websites:
